How to export from Metaroom

Exports happen from the Metaroom Workspace. You can access it in two ways: directly in a browser at studio.amrax.ai, or by tapping the Export button in the Metaroom Scan App — which opens the Workspace in a mobile view. After scanning, the app uploads the data to the cloud for reconstruction. Once the 3D model is ready, you export from the Workspace.

To share a scan with a colleague or client without exporting a file, use the Project Sharing feature in the Workspace — it generates a link to the 3D model that anyone can open in a browser without a Metaroom account.

Step What you do
1. Open the project Log in to Metaroom Workspace — either at studio.amrax.ai in a browser, or by tapping the Export button in the Metaroom Scan App, which opens the Workspace in a mobile view. Open the scan project.
2. Select Export Click the Export button in the project toolbar.
3. Choose format Select your format from the list — DXF, IFC, RDF, PDF, Excel, or any other supported format.
4. Download The file downloads immediately. No post-processing or conversion needed.

For detailed export instructions per format, see the Metaroom Help Center export guide.

Importing into AutoCAD

For AutoCAD MEP and Architecture workflows, export as IFC from Metaroom. For standard 2D floor plan work in AutoCAD, export as DXF.

Step DXF import IFC import
1. Open AutoCAD Open AutoCAD Open AutoCAD MEP or Architecture
2. Import file File → Open → select the DXF file Insert tab → Import → IFC → select the IFC file
3. Result Dimensioned 2D floor plan, ready to edit as standard AutoCAD geometry 3D building model with room data, ready for MEP workflows

Importing into Revit

Export as IFC from Metaroom. Revit supports IFC 2x3 and IFC 4 — both are available from Metaroom.

Step What you do
1. Open Revit Open Revit and create a new project or open an existing one.
2. Import IFC File → Open → IFC → select the Metaroom IFC file.
3. Review the model The floor plan geometry, walls, and room data appear in Revit. Rooms include area, volume, and ceiling height data from the scan.
4. Use as base Use the imported geometry as an as-built base for design, renovation planning, or BIM documentation.

Importing into DIALux and Relux

DIALux and Relux are the two standard lighting planning programs. Each uses a different format from Metaroom.

DIALux

Export as IFC

In DIALux, go to File → Import → IFC and select the Metaroom IFC file. The room geometry appears immediately, ready for luminaire placement and lighting calculations.

Relux Desktop

Export as RDF

Metaroom exports a dedicated RDF file for Relux Desktop. Open Relux Desktop, select Import → RDF, and choose the Metaroom file. The 3D room model integrates directly — no conversion needed.

Both tools

No manual room drawing

Both DIALux and Relux normally require manual room entry — dimensions, wall heights, ceiling geometry. Importing from Metaroom eliminates this step entirely. You start luminaire placement on a scan-accurate room model.

Pro tip: scan first, plan immediately

Scan the space on-site with Metaroom, upload the scan, export as IFC or RDF, and open directly in DIALux or Relux. From scan to lighting plan: under one hour for a standard room. No return visit needed for missing ceiling heights or wall dimensions.

Importing into DDS-CAD

DDS-CAD is used for electrical, HVAC, and MEP planning. Export as IFC from Metaroom.

In DDS-CAD, go to File → Import → IFC and select the Metaroom IFC file. The room geometry appears as a base plan for MEP element placement. Wall positions, room boundaries, and ceiling heights from the scan are available for electrical outlet placement, cable routing, and HVAC duct layout.

Importing into Palette CAD

Palette CAD has a direct integration with Metaroom — no file export or IFC download needed. You log in to your Metaroom account from within Palette CAD and load the scan directly.

Step What you do
1. Open Palette CAD Launch Palette CAD on your PC.
2. Create a new plan Click "Create new plan".
3. Open the Metaroom integration In the upper navigation, click the "Insert" tab, navigate to "Project", and select "Metaroom" from the drop-down list.
4. Log in to Metaroom A pop-up window appears. Enter your Metaroom credentials to connect your account.
5. Select your scan Your Metaroom scans appear in the list. Select the scan you want to use — the 3D room model loads directly into Palette CAD.

For interior designers and furniture planners, this eliminates both the manual room drawing step and the file export step. Scan on-site with Metaroom, open Palette CAD, connect your account, and start placing furniture — no intermediate file handling required.

Pro tip: combine LiDAR scan and laser for furniture planning

Scan the full room with Metaroom for the complete floor plan geometry, then measure the 3 to 5 critical dimensions — niche widths, installation depths, distances to power outlets — with a laser distance meter. Load the scan into Palette CAD via the direct integration, then verify the critical dimensions before finalizing furniture placement. This gives you millimeter accuracy where it matters without measuring the entire room by hand.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Export the scan as DXF from Metaroom Workspace for standard 2D AutoCAD workflows, or as IFC for AutoCAD MEP and Architecture. Open AutoCAD, go to File → Open and select the DXF file, or use the Insert tab → Import → IFC for the IFC file. The floor plan opens as editable AutoCAD geometry.
Export the scan as IFC from Metaroom Workspace. In Revit, go to File → Open → IFC and select the file. Metaroom exports IFC 2x3 and IFC 4 — both are supported by Revit. The imported model includes floor plan geometry, walls, and room data including areas, volumes, and ceiling heights.
DXF is a 2D vector format — it imports as flat geometry (lines and polylines) that you can edit in any 2D CAD program. IFC is a 3D BIM format — it imports as a structured building model with walls, rooms, and metadata including areas, volumes, and ceiling heights. Use DXF for 2D drafting workflows and IFC for BIM workflows.
Export the scan as IFC from Metaroom Workspace. In DIALux, go to File → Import → IFC and select the file. The room geometry — walls, ceiling height, floor area — appears immediately, ready for luminaire placement and lighting calculations.
Export the scan as RDF from Metaroom Workspace. Metaroom produces a dedicated RDF file specifically for Relux Desktop integration. In Relux Desktop, go to Import → RDF and select the Metaroom file. The 3D room model integrates directly without conversion.
Metaroom exports to 30+ formats and is compatible with AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, BricsCAD, DIALux, Relux Desktop, DDS-CAD, SketchUp, Palette CAD, Pytha, RED CAD, Ziemer SCC, Ranplan Wireless, Bluebeam, and more. A full list of supported integrations is available at amrax.ai/integrations/.
About Metaroom

Metaroom is a professional floor plan scanning app for architects, tradespeople, and energy consultants. You scan a room with iPhone Pro or iPad Pro — the app captures geometry automatically using LiDAR. The result exports to DXF, IFC (2x3 and 4), RDF, PDF, Excel, GLB, and 30+ other formats. DXF opens directly in AutoCAD. IFC opens directly in Revit, ArchiCAD, DIALux, and DDS-CAD. RDF integrates directly with Relux Desktop. A 3-room apartment scans in under 20 minutes.
