Introduction
AFP is a division of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and specializes in high-quality interior fit-out. From its production site in Abuja, AFP supplies clients across Nigeria with custom furniture, wall cladding, kitchens, and individual room solutions.
AFP’s business works as follows: a furniture quote is prepared before an order is placed. Since only a portion of quotes actually convert into orders, every hour invested during the quoting phase counts. The path from measurement to finished rendering was long the critical bottleneck — and the starting point where the team began looking for a better solution.
Challenge / Problem
In Nigeria, building plans frequently deviate from actual construction because changes made during the build are not documented. AFP therefore regularly has to carry out its own measurements during the quoting phase. For large projects — hotels, corporate headquarters with many offices — this was particularly demanding: each room measured individually, values noted by hand, then transferred into the system later.
The result was measurement sheets that went missing or were illegible, transfer errors into the CAD software, and delays because scans from other cities first had to physically reach Abuja. For quotes that ultimately didn’t result in an order, this effort was hard to justify.
Reviewing measurements in the Metaroom Workspace to prepare a quote.
The Solution
AFP came to Metaroom through their contact at Palette CAD, Christoph Schweizer. As part of a workflow review, Schweizer — who knows AFP’s internal processes well — introduced both the Palette Home App and the combination with Metaroom. The team was immediately convinced and implemented both systems.
In day-to-day work, it now looks like this: during a client appointment, the employee opens the Metaroom room scanning app on their smartphone and scans the rooms. What used to mean half a day with a laser device and a clipboard is now done in a few hours — even for larger properties with many individual rooms.
Particularly helpful are some specific features that directly feed into the process:
- Automatic area calculation and deduction of wall openings eliminate manual calculation work that was previously error-prone.
- Scans are made available directly in Abuja via the cloud — regardless of whether a colleague is currently in Lagos or another city.
- The IFC export feeds the scan data directly into Palette CAD — without manual re-entry.
Material planning is now significantly easier.
The Results
What matters for AFP is not a single advantage, but the interplay of several process improvements. Capacity in work preparation is used more efficiently — the time that previously went into manual measurement is now available for renderings and quotes.
The combination of both systems works particularly well: during the quoting phase, Metaroom quickly delivers the measurements needed for rendering and calculation. When an order is placed, Palette Home / Palette CAD determines the exact production measurements. This means the team doesn’t have to sacrifice precision, but works significantly faster in early project phases.
Process reliability has also improved: digital measurements don’t get lost, are always legible, and reach exactly where they’re needed without detours. For a company that operates nationwide and manages many projects simultaneously, this makes a real difference in day-to-day work.

Conclusion
AFP demonstrates how room scanning makes a concrete difference for furniture companies in a demanding market environment. Not as a technical experiment, but as a permanent part of the daily workflow: from client appointment through rendering to furniture planning.
According to AFP, Metaroom is particularly recommended wherever measurements need to be taken quickly, flexibly, and across locations, and processed directly in digital form. Which is exactly where AFP regularly works: multiple rooms, larger projects, a distributed team — and the next appointment already tomorrow.

“With Metaroom we save an enormous amount of time on measurements in our daily work and can start with renderings and quotes significantly faster. Especially when running multiple projects in parallel, this is a clear advantage for us.”
